We have collaborated with global software services company Mobica to demonstrate a new user-friendly Android TV launcher at this year’s IBC exhibition – the world’s leading media, entertainment and technology show – taking place in Amsterdam.
The TV launcher, which is compatible with a range of Android set top boxes (STBs), has a highly customised UI which allows users to browse categories, use web-based video services and search using text and voice. Based on the Android TV Leanback library, the launcher also boasts numerous features that bring it in line with the very latest STBs.
Mobica has integrated the Android TV launcher into DTVKit’s DVB stack in order to demonstrate live TV with this solution. A Flutter demo for Fuchsia based devices, which includes a functionally complete back end that will enable video on demand service, is also soon to be released.
Jim Carroll, CTO at Mobica says, “We’re always looking towards future innovation. With 5G devices being rolled out globally, we wanted to ensure our partners are leading the way with this industry trend.
Working with DTVKit, we have developed a TV launcher that is ready for deployment on Android mobile and tablets, automotive rear seat entertainment systems and desktop browsers, and incorporates the latest control systems, such as voice.”
Phil Evans, Managing Director of DTVKit says “DTVKit have chosen Mobica as partner for this project due to their in-depth Android expertise and global market presence. We now have an Android TV launcher that not only complements DTVKit’s existing DVB stack but provides an enhanced user-friendly experience.”
DTVKit will be exhibiting the TV launcher at DTVKit’s stand in Hall 1 D.11 at the IBC 2019 show in Amsterdam 13-17 September 2019.
