ATSC 3

ATSC 3.0, also known as NextGen TV, is a new broadcast standard that enables TV stations to transmit 1080p and 4K video over the air, along with high dynamic range (HDR) and immersive audio.

ATSC

Next-generation TV, or ATSC 3.0, leverages an Internet Protocol backbone to deliver high-quality video and audio, interactive features, advanced emergency alerts, and more. It supports both fixed and mobile devices, enabling 4K resolution and immersive audio formats. ATSC 3.0 is being used to deploy IP-based TV services across several broadcast markets, including South Korea (2017), USA (2020), Jamaica (2022), Trinidad & Tobago (2025) and Brazil (expected 2025).

ATSC 3 is the latest standard for over-the-air TV broadcasting, which offers several benefits for viewers and broadcasters. Some of the benefits are:

Improved picture quality, with support for 4K, HDR, WCG, and HFR formats.

More interactivity, with the ability to deliver on-demand video and internet data over the air.

Enhanced audio quality, with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS-X immersive sound.

ATSC 3.0 allows broadcasters to track consumer viewing habits much like Facebook and Google use today.

Better reception, with more robust signals that can reach more devices and locations including your mobile or in your car.
